Roll Eli, Roll

Well, Elijah has figured out how to roll-over! Last week, on his 5-month birthday he rolled over twice, after being so close for about two weeks. Previously he would try to push himself over by kicking his top leg back and pushing on the floor, which only succeeded in him putting an extreme arch in his back and scooting sideways! But finally, out of extreme frustration, he got all the parts moving in the right direction and flipped over. He looked up at me with a big grin, grabbed a toy, and then started crying (extreme frustration, remember?).

Well, for the next few days he had a cold and wasn’t feeling well so he didn’t even attempt to roll, not wanting to be put down on the floor at all! But yesterday when I came home, Jon’s mom told me that he had rolled back to tummy about 8 times or so, and had even rolled from his tummy to his back twice – which I had never seen him do before! Now he has the back to tummy roll down pat. He just looks at you and goes!

Jon had missed all of Eli’s rolls, so when Jon came home last night we put Eli on the floor and sat watching him. After a little bit of playing with us he got bored and then started looking around. And then, quick as a wink, he rolled himself over! And Jon got to see it (see – I wasn’t lying, honey!). I’m guessing Elijah is going to figure out pretty quickly how to string the rolls together and get around. We better start the baby-proofing!

Eli's quickly becoming an expert at the back-to-tummy roll now. He rolled over a couple of times while playing on the floor before we left for daycare this morning, and the first thing he did when I set him down on the floor on a play mat at day care was roll over again!
