After saying that we were going to keep the blog updated, we promptly haven’t written anything! That’s the way life goes with a little one, I guess.
The biggest change here is that Elijah started solid food about 10 days ago. If you can really call soupy cereal “solid”!
We started him on rice cereal, and he really took to it right away! We captured the unforgettable first bite – a big grimace – and then Elijah started eating with gusto. We’re not sure though whether the cereal agreed with him. Within the next 24 hours his runny nose worsened, and he started having major poopie blowouts. That could have just been from his cold though, so we weren’t sure.
When we went to Ohio to celebrate birthdays last weekend though we didn’t feed him cereal, and on Monday his runny nose and poo issues had resolved. Then on Monday night we fed him rice cereal again and the nose and poo problems resumed. Plus we both noticed that shortly after starting the feeding Elijah started trying to shove anything into his mouth (towards the sides which was different) and chew and rub his tongue on the object. Maybe a slight sensitivity to rice? I’m not sure.
Well, on Tuesday I decided to try barley cereal and see how he reacted to that. He gobbled it down (2 bowls full!) and had none of the weird chewing behavior. Still a little of a runny nose, but not like on Monday night, and no poop incidents so far. So I’m thinking that it may have been a sensitivity to the rice cereal. We’ll keep eating the barley and see how it goes. It’s all so nerve-wracking to not know what is going on. I guess that’s just part of becoming a parent though!
